Classification of STN area
BeskrivelseThe abbreviation STN stands for "The Sami Parliament's grant schemes for business development". The predecessor SUF (Development Fund for the central Sami settlement areas) was established in 1976, but from 2009 STN has been the designation. The area is defined by where the Sámi Parliament can grant its special measures in the fields of industry and culture. It is a mixture of entire municipalities and parts of municipalities based on basic constituencies. Everything is north of Saltfjellet. The STN area is, in the absence of a better alternative, used as the definition of Sami areas in Statistics Norway's statistics on Sami relations. This is the basic geographical division for Sami statistics. The code for level 1 refers to 6 different regions (in three counties) which can further be divided into STN areas (STN) or other areas (OVR) at level 2. Level 3 shows the distribution of municipalities between STN areas (STN) and other areas (OVR). The classification has correspondence to basic circuits.
