Signs of optimism in manufacturing

In the first quarter of 2017, Norwegian industrial managers reported a levelling off of the decline in production. Suppliers to the oil and gas sector in particular reported a decline. The general expectations for the second quarter of 2017 are positive among most of the industry leaders.

Slight increase in tax payments

Total taxes paid amount to NOK 236 billion at the end of March 2017. This equals an increase of nearly NOK 5 billion, or 2.1 per cent, from the corresponding period last year.

Increased external trade in goods

Exports in goods amounted to NOK 79.7 billion in March, a rise of nearly 30 percent compared to the same month in 2016. Increased exports of crude oil and fish, as well as higher natural gas prices, were decisive. Imports of goods increased by nearly 13 percent, ending at NOK 57.0 billion.

Stable TV viewing figures, increase in reading newspapers online

Fewer people read printed newspapers and more people read online versions of newspapers on an average day in 2016 than the year before. The number of persons watching TV remains stable. We spend more time on the Internet, and use of social media is still increasing.
