Definition Investments in assets with a life expectancy of more than 1 year. Investments in new and used capital goods, and includes extensions, alterations, improvements and repairs that prolong the lifetime of the capital goods or increase their production capacity. Costs for design, transportation, installation and any special duties shall also be included. Deductible VAT, financial expenses and tax benefits attained (e.g. from investments in more environmentally-friendly equipment) and tangible fixed assets acquired through restructuring (e.g. mergers, takeovers, demergers and divisions) shall not be included. Purchased goods are valued at cost price, and self-produced goods are valued at production cost.
