Retail sales up NOK 9.4 billion

Retailers, with the exception of motor vehicles and petrol, increased sales by NOK 9.4 billion in the first ten month in 2002 compared with the same period in 2001. This is equivalent to an increase of 5.3 per cent.

All sales in this connection exclude value-added tax.

Retail sale in non-specialized stores, which mainly include grocery stores, rose by 6.6 per cent from the first ten month in 2001 to the first eight month in 2002. Stores selling pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased sales by 5.6 per cent during the same period. Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores increased by 4.4 per cent during this period. This sector consists of clothing, shoes, electrical goods, furniture and building materials. Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores rose by 2.9 per cent. Retail sale of second-hand goods in stores and retail sales not in stores, decreased 5.2 and 0.6 per cent respectively in the first ten month in 2002 compared with the same period in 2001.

1.7 billion more in 5th period

In September October (5th period) 2002, retail sales increased by 1.7 NOK billion or 4.5 per cent compared with the same period 2001. Stores selling pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles increased sales by 7.0 per cent in this period. Retail sale in non-specialized stores, which mainly include grocery stores, rose by 5.3 per cent in September and October 2002 compared with the same period 2001. Other retail sales of new goods in specialized stores rose by 4.0 per cent in the same period.

A small growth in sales of motor vehicles and petrol

Sale of motor vehicles and petrol increased by 2.5 per cent in September October 2002 compared with the same period 2001. On the other hand there was a decline of 3.1 per cent the first ten months 2002 compared with the same period in 2001.

Wholesaling decreased by NOK 5.2 billion

Wholesalers decreased sales by NOK 5.2 billion the first ten months 2002 compared with the same period in 2001, a decrease of 1.2 per cent. In September October 2002 wholesalers had a small growth of 1.8 per cent compared with the same period 2001.
