Important announcement: Transition to a new industry classification

A new version of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC2007) was implemented in January 2009. The structural statistics for the reference year 2008 are published according to the new and old standards. Figures for 2007 will also be published according to the new standard. The most important change for the quarterly turnover statistics for wholesale and retail trade is that the petrol stations are no longer a part of Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. This industry has been included in retail sales. For general information about the transition to the new Standard Industrial Classification click here

Preliminary figures

Preliminary figures for structural business statistics are only published on enterprise level. In general, the figures for enterprises will show other values than the figures for local kind-of-activity units. This is due to the fact that an enterprise registered with its main activity in one industry may have local kind-of-activity units in other industries. Only figures for number of enterprises, persons employed and turnover on a 3-digit industry level are published. The data are not as thoroughly revised as they will be when the final figures are published in May 2010.

Deviation between preliminary and final figures

Comparisons between preliminary and final figures for the wholesale and retail trade in 2006 and 2007 show that the final figures for number of enterprises were 1.4 and 0.8 per cent lower respectively. The final figures for turnover were 0.3 per cent lower in 2006 and 0.2 per cent higher for final figures in 2007. The employment figures were 1.0 per cent lower for final figures in 2006 and 0.6 per cent higher in 2007.
