More than six litres per capita

The turnover of spirit, alcopops and wine increases. For the first time, the turnover is above six litres pure alcohol per capita in Norway, an increase of 0.141 litres or 2.4 per cent from 2002.

In 2003, the registered turnover was almost 22 million litres of pure alcohol. This divides into 10.0 million litres of beer, 6.7 million litres of wine, 4.4 million litres of spirit and 0.8 million litres of alcopops, all in litres of pure alcohol.

The figures are calculated on the basis of the monthly questionnaires that each business sends to the Directorarate of Customs and Excise (TAD) and registered import. The figures do not include Norwegian private citizens' purchase of alcohol abroad.

More spirit

The registered turnover of spirit increased by 1.0 million litres, or 9.9 per cent from 2002 to 2003. In 4t h quarter 2003 the turnover rose by 63 000 litres, or 1,7 per cent compared with 4t h quarter 2002.

Sales of alcopops have tripled

The registered turnover of alcopops has tripled from 2002 to 2003. The turnover was 17.7 million litres, an increased by 11.9 million litres. In 4t h quarter 2003 the turnover rose by 2.1 million litres compared with 4t h quarter 2002.

2.2 per cent more wine

In 2003, the turnover of wine was 56.2 million litres, an increase of 1.2 million litres, or 2.2 per cent from 2002. The registered turnover of wine was 16.2 million litres in 4t h quarter 2003, a decrease of 452 000 litres or 2.7 per cent compared with the same period 2002.

Decline of beer

The turnover of beer declined with 9.3 million litres, or 3.9 per cent from 2002 to 2003. From 4t h quarter 2002 to 4t h quarter 2003 the turnover of beer decreased by 0.9 per cent. The decline was 496 000 litres this period.
