Venezuela had 100 port calls more in 2008 than in 2007, with a corresponding increase in arrived GRT of 9.6 million; an increase of 44.6 and 183.6 per cent respectively from 2007.

Continued drop in port calls to Europe

Europe is the only world region with a drop in the number of port calls from 2007 to 2008. In 2008, the number of port calls was 42 249; down 5.7 per cent from the 44 800 port calls of 2007. Arrived GRT fell from 509 million in 2007 to 496 million in 2008; a 2.4 per cent decrease. This is the second year in a row that Europe has seen a drop in both the number of port calls and arrived GRT. Note that these numbers are for Europe excluding Norway.
