NOK 22.6 billion in turnover

Preliminary figures show that enterprises within water supply, sewerage and waste had a total turnover of NOK 22.6 billion in 2012, which corresponds to an increase of 2.4 per cent compared to final figures for 2011.

Waste activities and materials recovery was the largest industry, and its turnover of NOK 20.8 billion made up almost 92 per cent of the total turnover.

Turnover within waste activities and materials recovery consists of NOK 9.7 billion from waste collection, NOK 8.5 billion from materials recovery and NOK 2.5 billion from waste treatment and disposal. Materials recovery experienced the largest increase in turnover; up NOK 508 million or almost 6 per cent compared to 2011.

Highest employment in waste activities and materials recovery

The number of persons employed within water supply, sewerage and waste in 2012 was 8 017. Eighty-six per cent of these were employed within waste activities and materials recovery. Of these, 4 289 worked with waste collection, 1 838 with materials recovery and 772 with waste treatment and disposal.
