Turnover, group-food and beverage service activities. Enterprise. Preliminary figures 2008. NOK billion.

These two industries employed about the same in 2008 as in 2007. Total enterprises in accommodation and food service activities went down 0.9 per cent and 3 per cent respectively.

Continuous growth for accommodation industry

The turnover increase for hotels is confirmed by the accommodation statistics. Figures from accommodation statistics December 2008 show that the total guest nights declined, but the price per room increased in 2008.

Fewer food and beverage service enterprises but higher total turnover

The total number of enterprises in the food and beverage service activities industry fell by over 200. Nevertheless, the industry had an increase in turnover of 7.9 per cent. The restaurants and mobile food service enterprises is the largest group in this industry, representing 75 per cent of total turnover and 79 per cent of the total employment in the industry. The second largest group, event catering and other food service activities, had the highest turnover increase of 12.9 per cent.

Preliminary figures

The preliminary figures for number of enterprises, turnover and employment for accommodation and food service activities are published while data are still being revised. The results may therefore deviate somewhat from final figures published at a later date. While preliminary figures are published on the enterprise level only, final figures are published on both the enterprise level and the local kind-of-activity unit level.

Important announcement: Transition to a new industry classification

A new version of the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC2007) was implemented in January 2009. The structural business statistics for the reference year 2008 are published according to both the new and previous standard. Figures for 2007 will also be published according to the new standard. Information about the new Standard Industrial Classification is available here.
