21.2 tonnes transported on rail

The total production by rail comprised 2.6 billion tonne-kilometres on Norwegian territory in 2003. 21,2 million tonnes were transported the same year.

The transport on Norwegian territory in connection with the international outgoing and incoming transport, comprised 0.5 billion tonne-kilometres and 2.9 million tonnes respectively.

Accordingly, about 14 per cent of the transported goods by rail were imported or exported in 2003. Excluded the transport of iron ore, this portion increased to 38 per cent.

Measured in tonnes carried, about 75 per cent of the transport by rail to or from Norway, were imported to or exported from Sweden in 2003.
