Lower electricity production
Electricity generation came to 39.3 TWh in the first quarter of 2013. This is 8 per cent lower compared with the same quarter in 2012, when the production level saw a record high.

Hydro power, thermal power and wind power fell by 8, 22 and 7 per cent respectively from the first quarter of 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.
Net import of power
Norway’s import of power totalled 3.8 TWh in the first quarter of 2013, whereas exports came to 3.1 TWh. This gave a net import of 0.7 TWh. In the same quarter in 2012 there was a net export of 4.8 TWh.
Increase in the total electricity consumption
The gross consumption of electricity came to 40 TWh in the first quarter of 2013; a rise of 6 per cent compared with the same quarter last year. The gross consumption of electricity encompasses consumption in the groups extraction of crude oil and natural gas, power-intensive manufacturing and electricity consumption excluding power-intensive manufacturing and extraction. Net loss, pump storage use and other own consumption in the power stations are also included.
