Weaker growth in total loan debt

The twelve-month growth in total gross debt (C3) was 0.8 per cent to end-March 2017, down from 1.8 per cent the previous month. The decrease stemmed from foreign debt sources.

Total gross debt amounted to NOK 6 605 billion at end-March, up from NOK 6 535 billion at end-February.

Mainland Norway’s gross debt accounted for 89 per cent of the total gross debt at end-March. This amounted to NOK 5 900 billion.

Decrease in foreign debt growth

The general public gross foreign debt, which mainly relates to non-financial corporations, amounted to NOK 1 389 billion at end-March, up from NOK 1 355 billion the previous month. The twelve-month growth decreased from -8.8 per cent to end-February to -13.1 per cent to end-March.

Mainland Norway accounted for 58 per cent of the public gross foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 800 billion at end-March. The twelve-month growth in mainland Norway’s foreign debt was -3.1 per cent to end-March, up from -4.4 to end-February.

Offshore industries accounted for the remainder of the foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 589 billion at end-March. The twelve-month growth was -23.9 per cent to end-March, down from -13.9 per cent to end-February.
