Monthly earnings increased by NOK 800

Full-time employees in social and personal service activities had average monthly earnings of NOK 28 900 per 1 October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 800 or 2.9 per from 2002.

The industrial section includes sewage and refuse disposal, membership organizations, recreational, cultural and sporting activities and personal service activities.

Membership organizations

The group include business, employers and professional organizations, trade unions and other membership organizations.

Employees in business and employers organizations had monthly earnings of NOK 36 400, while employees in trade unions had NOK 32 200. This was an increase from 2002 of NOK 1 400 and NOK 1 800, respectively.

Recreational, cultural and sporting activities

Here we find motion picture and video activities, radio and television activities, news agencies and other entertainment activities.

Full-time employees in radio, television, news agencies and the like earned NOK 30 500 on the average, which was up about NOK 100 or 0.4 per cent from the previous year.

Other personal service activities

Other personal service activities include washing, dry-cleaning, hairdressing, beauty treatment etc.

Full-time employees in washing and dry-cleaning had monthly earnings of NOK 21 400 per 1 October 2003, which was NOK 600 more or an increase of 3 per cent from 2002.

Hairdressers and beauticians received NOK 21 000 - an increase of NOK 200 from 2002.

Estimated annual earnings increased by 3.7 per cent

Annual earnings include basic paid wages and salaries, variable additional allowances, bonuses and commissions and the like. Overtime pay and other benefits are not included. The estimated annual earnings are estimated using information from wage statistics from at least two years and information from wage negotiations. The figures for 2003 are preliminary until the wage statistics for October 2004 are published.

Full-time employees in social and personal service activities had estimated annual earnings of NOK 344 500 on the average, per 1 October 2003. This was NOK 12 400 or 3.7 per cent more than in 2002.

Employees in membership organizations had the highest earnings of all in this section. On the average, they received NOK 365 700, which was an increase of 4.7 per cent or NOK 16 500.

Employees in recreational, cultural and sporting activities had annual earnings of NOK 350 500. This corresponded to an increase of NOK 8 100 or 2.4 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 21 171 full-time employees and 8 384 part-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2003 the statistics cover about 73 800 employees in social and personal service activities.
