Most households in need of adapted dwellings

About 40 per cent of the households who were given municipal housing in 2011 were in need of adapted dwellings. An adapted dwelling might be a dwelling without stairs or a dwelling designed for specific groups of users.

Furthermore, about 16 per cent of the households were given municipal housing because they were refugees, 9 per cent because of mental illness, 7 per cent because of substance abuse and 5 per cent because of a combination of mental illness and substance abuse.

About 17 per cent of households with other problems were given municipal housing in 2011. Other problems might be social and/or financial difficulties.

Finally, 6 per cent of the households were given municipal housing without means testing. This could for instance be a doctor who is working in the community.

The distribution between these groups has been stable during the years 2009-2011.
