Definition A division into ocean- and coastal areas, indicating where the catch is taken. Ocean areas are located outside Norway's 12 nautical miles boundary, while coastal areas are located inside Norway's 12 nautical miles boundary. The ocean- and coastal areas are further sub-divided.

Comments Norway use FAO's division into fishing regions for statistical purposes. At the highest level we have inland waters and marine waters. Important Norwegian fishing grounds are 21 the Northwest Atlantic and 27 the Northeast Atlantic. These areas are further sub-divided.
