Definition | Deadweight is the maximum weight that a ship can carry. It is quoted here in metric tonns (1000Kg) but can also sometimes be quoted in long tons (1016Kg). Maximum cargo weight will normally range from 3 to 10 per cent below deadweight due to fuel, water, supplies etc. |
