Definition Environmental protection includes all purposeful activities directly aimed at the prevention, reduction or treatment of pollution or any other degradation of the environment (resulting from the production process or from the use of goods and services). These statistics cover three economic variables related to environmental protection: total current expenditure (own production and purchases), end-of-pipe/pollution treatment investments and investments in integrated technologies/pollution prevention.
