Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

Enheter i institusjonspubliseringen defineres ut ifra organisasjonsnummeret i Enhetsregisteret. Som 'videregående skole' regnes her skoler som per 01.10. har elever i videregående opplæring, for fylkeskommunale skoler også studenter i fagskoleutdanning. Før 2005 vil skoler som har både videregående opplæring og fagskoleutdanning inneholde begge grupper uavhengig av eierform. Hvis det er registrert voksne i videregående opplæring i tilbud tilpasset voksne på skolen, er disse tatt med i elevtallene. Kilde: VIGO, Enhetsregisteret. For skoler som har 10 elever eller mindre, er alle opplysninger prikket (dvs. tall vises ikke). Nedlagte skoler vil heller ikke komme ut med tall for den aktuelle årgangen. I tillegg er variabler med verdien 1 eller 2 prikket (+ ev. andre variabler slik at det ikke kan tilbakeregnes) slik at elever ikke skal la seg identifisere, i tråd med SSBs generelle publiseringsregler. Elever ved skolen som ikke går i videregående opplæring eller i fagskoleutdanning som angitt over, er ikke tatt med. See list over changes in regional classifications (in Norwegian).
