### type of family

This table underestimates the number of children living with step-siblings because of the absence of figures for cohabitant couples without common children in our register based statistics. According to the last population and housing census from 3 November 2001 there were 4 600 children living in this type of family. Figures from our register based statistics by 1 January 2002 show 4 200 children living with step-siblings in families where the adults either were married or had common children.
