Land reserves are areas in the municipal plan that have been set aside for development, but which have not been developed. Areas that are protected, unsuitable or otherwise incompatible with construction are excluded. Land reserves for residential development include here both areas set aside for residential areas and other land-use objectives within building and facilities, where residential development is a possibility.

See list over changes in regional classifications (in Norwegian).

land-use objective

Land-use objectives are main elements in the area section of the municipal plan, which specifies with legally binding effect what the area can be used for. Land-use objectives are divided into main purposes, which in turn can be divided into sub-purposes. The various land uses are indicated using colors and codes. The land uses from 1985 have a 3-digit code, from 2008 they have a 4-digit code.

area classification

Area classification contains land cover categories as they are specified in the property Artype in AR5, that is to say that the area is divided according to land cover into the classes built-up area, agricultural area, forest, open land, wetland/swamp and other. Built-up area includes transport, and the category Other area includes other types of land such as block land, water, glaciers and areas that have not been mapped.
