In Rogaland, more than 18 per cent of the population were children under 13 years of age. In relative terms, the highest proportion of children under seven years of age was found in Rogaland, Oslo and Akershus. 4 737 200 resident at the end of the year
The population increased by 56 000 to 4 737 200 in 2007. This is the highest increase ever, and 15 000 higher than in 2006, the previous year of record growth. Since 1900, the population increase in per cent has only been higher in 1917, 1920 and 1946.
The excess of net migration, which in 2007 accounted for 71 per cent of the population increase, has contributed strongly to the population growth during the last years.
The age distribution of a population is a result of several conditions: How long people live, the number of migrations and the age of migrants - but primarily the number of births during the last decades.
Figures for population changes in the last quarter of 2007 and 2007 as a whole have also been published. More statistics on citizenship and marital status will be published on 13 March.
