Percentage of never married males and females, by different ages. 1971 and 2001

Every second woman, 30 years of age, has never been married. In 1971, this figure was every tenth. Among men, 30 years of age, 66 per cent have never been married, while this figure was 20 per cent in 1971.

35 per cent of all residents 15 years and above have never been married. Thirty years ago, in 1971, this figure was 27 per cent. From 1971 till today this group has increased by 468 000 persons, to 1 273 000. This development can be explained by the fact that many couples choose living together without getting married, and that the average age of those who actually do get married is rising.
