Investments continue to go down and the Industry statistics for Svalbard show a total decrease of 38 percentage from 2024 to 2025, the decrease corresponds to 285 million NOK.
Revenue on Svalbard is declining slightly
Total turnover on Svalbard is decreasing with 5 percentage in 2025. A total of 5.8 billions NOK was traded in 2025.
Store Norske
Store Norske sold coal in 2025 for 78 million NOK and they produced 93000 tons against 120 000 tons the year before.
A large part of the coal produced has previously gone to powerplant in Longyearbyen. This was shut down in October 2023 and mine 7, which has been the only active mine producing coal, was completely shut down in July 2025. All sold coal has been exported to the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.
