More immigrants in upper secondary education

The number of pupils in upper secondary education increased by 2 100 compared to the previous year, which was mostly attributed to immigrants. The number of immigrants has increased both in upper secondary schools and among apprentices and trainees.

Also this year, the number of apprentices and trainees has declined, by 350 compared to 1 800 the previous year. The total number of apprentices and trainees was around 35 200. The decline can be attributed to the phasing out of R94.

Tertiary vocational schools

The number of students in tertiary vocational education increased by 25 per cent in 2011. Most of these students are men, and constitute 85 per cent of the total student number. Scientific, craft and technical studies are the largest special fields. Second largest is health and social care together with sport studies, and in this field the women are in the majority.

Folk high schools

There are about 200 more pupils in folk high schools this year than last year, all of whom are in the group above 19 years. Nevertheless, the largest group is the 19 year-old pupils - as previously.
