Pharmacy popular with immigrant students

Thirty-three per cent of the Master of Pharmacy students were immigrants in autumn 2011. Only 2 per cent of the students on general teacher training programmes were immigrants.

Among the 650 Master of Pharmacy students in autumn 2011, 33 per cent were immigrants, and almost 14 per cent were Norwegian-born to immigrant parents. Women are in the majority on this programme, among immigrants, Norwegian-born to immigrant parents and in the rest of the population.

Around 10 100 students were registered on the three-year bachelor degree in engineering, foundation programme, and almost one out of ten were immigrants. Almost 2 per cent were Norwegian-born to immigrant parents. Enrolment of immigrants and Norwegian-born to immigrant parents is low for general teacher training programmes, with 2 and 1 per cent respectively.

Increase in number of students

A total of about 250 500 students in Norway and Norwegian students abroad were registered in tertiary education in 2011; 9 200 more than in 2010.

Almost 1 100 more Norwegian students abroad

Approximately 14 600 Norwegians were studying at tertiary institutions abroad in autumn 2011; an increase of nearly 8 per cent compared to the previous year. The United Kingdom and Denmark are the most popular study locations.
