Hordaland at top in folk high schools

Hordaland was the county attracting most pupils to its folk high schools in 2005. Hordaland was also the county that recruited most pupils to Norwegian folk high schools.

There were 6 300 registered pupils in long courses at folk high schools according to preliminary figures by 1 October 2005. The county of Hordaland had most pupils in its folk high schools with 700, 11 per cent of the total number of pupils.

Many of the pupils, 640, also came from Hordaland, making it the county that recruited most people to folk high schools. Hordaland was followed by Akershus and Rogaland with 600 and 500 pupils respectively. Norwegian citizens made up 90 per cent of all folk high school pupils at 1 October 2005.

The percentage of women at folk high schools is high. 62 per cent of the pupils are women. Among 19-year-olds the percentage is even higher. Of these, 71 per cent of the pupils are women.

340 interrupted education at folk high school

By 1 October 2005 the number of pupils at folk high schools in Norway was at same level as last school year 2004/2005. Most of the pupils completed their education at folk high schools. Only 5 per cent, or 340, of the pupils interrupted their education.
