Increase in number of participants

After a temporary decline in the number of participants in folk high school short courses, the figures for 2009 show that attendance is now at the same level as in 2006. A total of 19 600 youngsters attended various short courses at the folk high schools in 2009, which is an increase of 19 per cent since 2008.

While the number of participants in several age groups almost doubled during the previous year, there was a small decline in the number of participants aged 50 years or older. The majority of participants are female, and the number of men amounts to 37 per cent. Aesthetic subjects and handicraft are most popular, but there are also more than 3 000 people attending each of the three areas Humanities, philosophy and ethics; Social sciences and Health and social subjects and sports.
