"Even though the weather was poor in parts of the country this summer, and many Norwegians are facing tighter finances, the figures from the accommodation statistics show a historically good summer. This shows that Norway is still an attractive tourist destination despite higher prices and growing unrest in many parts of the world," says Endre Brunner Furu, adviser at Statistics Norway.
From February 2026, we have changed the method for calculating guest nights for fixed seasonal contracts at camping sites that cannot report exact numbers of guest nights. Operators who do not have information on the number of guest nights can now report the number of seasonal contracts in use. Statistics Norway then calculates guest nights using factors based on the month and the county in which the campsite is located. These factors are determined on the basis of historical data and dialogue with the industry.
