New figures from the accommodation statistics show that there were 2.5 million guest nights at hotels in September. Oslo had the highest number of notice the difference between “guest nights” and “guest”. One guest may have several guest nights at hotels with 532 000, followed by Vestland with 428 000. 

– September has been a good month for the hotels in Norway. In most of the counties there was record high numbers of guest nights for a September, says advisor Boyd Oyier in Statistics Norway. 

Guest nights at hotels in Vestland and Akershus contributed most to the increase in September compared to same period last year. These two counties accounted for 40 per cent of the increase in the number of guest nights at hotels. The decrease in guest nights at hotels was largest in Telemark and Nordland.

The distribution between domestic and foreign guest nights as well as the breakdown by nationality, is more accurate this year than it was last year. 

Better breakdown by nationality is due to several factors: 

  • More data providers now report directly from their booking systems. 
  • The Immigration Regulations require all hotels and accommodation providers to register information about foreign guests. Several major hotel chains have introduced ID checks. 

Please be aware of this when comparing country-level data between previous years and 2025. 

Increase in the revenue at the hotels 

The Are the sales figure for the accommodation activity, not including any breakfast or other extra services, even though they might be included in the price of the stay. Sales are published without any VATat norwegian hotels was 2.6 billion kroner in September this year. Compared to September last year, the revenue increased by 10 per cent while the number of guest nights at hotels increased by 5 per cent. Oslo and Vestland contributed most to the increase in revenue with 10 and 8.5 per cent respectively. 

– Many hotels have reported that the prices have been increasing due to general price changes and increased demand, says Oyier. 

 

Highest price for hotel rooms at Svalbard and in Oslo 

Turnover from guest nights, excluding revenue from any food and beverage services and value-added tax (VAT), divided by the number of rooms sold was 1 495 kroner, an increase of 6.3 per cent from September last year. 

Compared to September last year, the price pr room has increased in all counties. The price increased the most at Svalbard, followed by Trøndelag and Oslo. In Østfold and Innlandet the price increased the least. The highest average price for a hotel room was at Svalbard costing 2 117 kroner. The second highest average price for a hotel room was in Oslo with 1 775 kroner.
