Less offences reported to the police

444 400 offences were reported to the police in 2001. This gives a decrease of 2 per cent compared with the previous year.

The statistics on offences reported to the police shows a decline in offences inflicting damage to property and for profit, but violent crime is slightly on the increase. There is still a strong increase in number of crimes of narcotics reported to the police.
