API for the Statbank Norway

PxWebApi v2 is the Statbank Norway’s new API. It was launched in autumn 2025 and was developed in collaboration with Statistics Sweden (SCB). The API provides simple and flexible access to all our 7,500 tables through GET and POST requests.

What’s new in PxWebApi v2?

This version is built on a new and more robust structure and introduces support for GET requests, more powerful filtering, and access to more metadata than previous versions.

Main differences compared to PxWebApi v1

  • Support for GET requests, allowing the entire query to be defined in the URL. This makes the API easier to integrate into many systems.
  • A new and more stable URL structure that is less vulnerable to changes in the table hierarchy.
  • More advanced filtering options, including new expressions and masking functions that provide more precise extracts (e.g., using ? and *).
  • Better access to metadata for more advanced automated extraction.

What do I need to do if I’m already using PxWebApi v1?

You don’t need to do anything now. PxWebApi v1 will remain available during a transition period, and we will not shut it down until we have a good solution for handling the transition to PxWebApi v2. We will provide more information when that solution is ready.
