Almost 550 000 establishments in Norway
The number of establishments in Norway amounted to 547 232 per 1 January 2015. Thirteen per cent belonged to retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. Establishments belonging to non-financial corporations amounted to almost half of all the establishments.

A total of 5.5 per cent of the establishments on a national basis belonged to enterprises within general government. In Oslo, general government amounted to only 2.4 per cent.
Forty-seven per cent of the establishments belonged to non-financial corporations, making this the largest sector.
Many small establishments
A total of 8 out of 10 establishments had less than 5 employees. Within agriculture, forestry and fishing, 98 per cent had less than 5 employees. Fewer than 700 of the total 547 000 establishments had 250 or more employees.
