Advertising space worth NOK 9.5 billion

A new survey by Statistics Norway shows that the sale and leasing of advertising space, provision of personnel and business law were among the business services with the largest turnover in 2004.

The product sale and leasing of advertising space and time had a turnover of NOK 9.5 billion, which accounts for 64 per cent of the total turnover within the industry group Advertising. Planning, creating and placement services of advertising had a turnover of NOK 3.8 billion in 2004, of which 2.6 billion came from full service advertising, 559 million from direct marketing and 239 million from advertising design.

The enterprises dealing with business law had a turnover of NOK 3.6 billion, which is equal to 50 per cent of the total turnover in the industry class Legal activities. Civil law had a turnover of NOK 1.6 billion, accounting for 22 per cent of the total turnover within legal services.

Large provision of personnel for industry and production

Provision of personnel for industry and production had a turnover of NOK 1.9 billion. This accounts for 25 per cent of the total turnover within provision of personnel. The turnover within provision of personnel for other office support services except for computer activities and telecommunication was NOK 2.2 billion in 2004. This is equal to 30 per cent of the total turnover. Provision of transport, warehousing and logistics personnel had a turnover of approximately NOK 1 billion, which is 14 per cent of the total turnover in the industry subclass.

Other business services

In addition to the abovementioned industries, the survey has included the industry subclasses “Accounting, book-keeping, auditing activities and tax consultancy”, “Market research and public opinion polling” and “Business and management consultancy activities”, as well as the industry groups “Architectural and engineering activities and related technical consultancy” and “Technical testing and analysis”.

The need for new statistic

The statistic shows how the turnover on enterprise level is divided between different products within business services. The background for this statistic is the requirement for a better and more detailed statistic within business services. It is the first time this kind of survey has been conducted in Norway.
