Exports up in April

Exports of goods reached NOK 63.6 billion in April, while imports came to NOK 36.5 billion. This gave a trade surplus in April of NOK 27.1 billion, up NOK 3.7 billion from April 2009.

In April the trade balance increased 15.9 per cent compared with the corresponding month in 2009. In the same period the export value increased by 11.1 per cent, and imports went up 7.7 per cent. Increased crude oil exports contributed to the high April figures, but the mainland export also went up in this period.

High crude oil price in April

The export value of crude oil in April ended at NOK 25.8 billion, up NOK 1.6 billion from March this year. The number of exported barrels was level with March, however, the crude oil prices increased from NOK 473 in March to NOK 506 this April. Compared to April 2009, the price climbed NOK 173 per barrel from NOK 333. Not since September 2008 have we seen such high crude oil prices - above NOK 500.

Less natural gas export

The export value of natural gas in gaseous state came to NOK 12.3 billion in April, a 15 per cent decline compared to April 2009. The reduction is due to both less exported volume and lower prices.

On the other hand, exports of machinery and transport equipment declined. The export value was reduced by NOK 1.1 billion ending at NOK 4.7 billion. Several subgroups contributed to the decline within this main group.
