Imports went up 16.5 per cent

Imports of goods in August came to NOK 37.5 billion, while exports reached NOK 64.2 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus for August of NOK 26.8 billion, a decline of NOK 5.8 billion from August 2006.

In August the total export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates came to NOK 37.5 billion. Exported value of crude oil alone was NOK 26.4 billion, 1.9 per cent more than in August last year. Natural gas subsided to NOK 10.4 billion. The average crude oil price is reduced by NOK 35, from NOK 457 per barrel in August last year, to NOK 422 August this year.

Seasonally adjusted figures

Seasonally adjusted figures for imports of goods excluding ships, oil platforms showed merely a 0.1 per cent rise in the period June to August 2007 compared with the previous three-month period. Corresponding figures for July to August this year showed a 3.2 per cent increase.

Similar figures for exports excluding ships and oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas showed a 6.3 per cent increase in the period June to August compared with the March to May period. From July to August there was a 3.7 per cent reduction in these figures.

Rise in imports value

Imports of goods excluding ships and oil platforms came to NOK 37.5 billion in August 2007. This is a rise of NOK 5.3 billion, or 16.5 per cent from August 2006.

Several groups contributed to the rise in imports this August. Machinery and transport equipment showed an increase of NOK 1.5 billion, ending at NOK 13.7 billion. Among these products, vehicles and general industrial machinery went up respectively NOK 450 and 360 million. Manufactured goods reached NOK 6.6 billion, an increase of NOK 1.2 billion. Contributing to the increase in this group we find iron and steel, non-ferrous metals and manufactures of metals. Imports of metalliferous ores and metal scrap also show a strong growth in August - up NOK 1.4 billion - ending at NOK 3 billion.

Steady export value

In August the export value of goods excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas came to NOK 26.7 billion. This is a small advance of 1.8 per cent compared with the August 2006.

Despite the steady exported value, manufactured goods increased with NOK 1.3 billion or 19.7 per cent. Within this group non-ferrous metals showed a growth close to 25 per cent. Total exported value for this group was NOK 5.1 billion in August 2007. Power generating machinery and equipment and general industrial machinery also experienced an improvement of NOK 409 million and 362 million respectively, compared with August last year.
