The total imports so far in 2007 amounts to NOK 187.5 billion compared with NOK 157 billion the same period in 2006. In May, Norway has an import value of NOK 39.4 billion, an increase of 15.3 per cent from May 2006.

The import of metalliferous ores and metal scrap more than doubled from May 2006 to May 2007, from NOK 1.7 billion in 2006 to NOK 3.5 billion, which partially can explain the increase in Norwegian imports. In addition, the increase was a result of a higher import value for machinery and transport equipment, amounting to NOK 15.1 billion in May 2007, an increase of 12.6 per cent. Cars were a significant contributor to this growth with an import value of NOK 4.2 billion in May 2007, as compared with NOK 3.8 billion the same month in 2006.

The export value of goods excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, natural gas and condensates came to NOK 66.4 billion in January 2007. This was an increase of 6.5 per cent, or NOK 4 billion, compared with the corresponding month last year. This increase was to a large extent due to a 36.1 per cent increase in exports of non-ferrous metals to NOK 6 billion in May 2007. In addition, the rise in exports was a result of increased exports of machinery specialized for particular industries and general industrial machinery and equipment, amounting to NOK 955 million and NOK 1.3 billion respectively.

The export value of fish in May came to NOK 2.6 billion. This equaled a rise of NOK 123.7 billion, or 5 per cent from May last year.
