Decline in External Trade in July

In July 2006, exports of goods came to NOK 61.5 billion, a decline of NOK 5.2 per billion from June. Imports of goods came to NOK 29.6 billion, 11 per cent less than previous month. Still, this gives a Norwegian trade surplus of NOK 31.9 billion in July.

Revised figures

The figures for exports of natural gas for the 2n d quarter of 2006 have been revised due to a substantial decline in prices. See table http://www.ssb.no/muh_en/tab-05-en.html

Total exported value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates came to NOK 40.9 billion in July. The export value of crude oil came to NOK 28.9 billion, an increase of 7.4 per cent. The crude oil price increased from NOK 425 per barrel in June to NOK 467 per barrel in July this year.

Seasonally adjusted figures: Increase in exports and imports

Similar figures for exports, excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas, showed an increase of 5.1 per cent from the previous three months period.

Seasonally adjusted figures show a 5.8 per cent increase in imports of goods, excluding ships and oil platforms, for the period May to July 2006 compared with the previous three months period. Corresponding figures show a slight decline of 1.7 per cent from June to July this year.

Increase in both exports and imports

Exported value of goods excluding ships, oil platforms, crude oil, condensates and natural gas, in July, came to NOK 61.5 billion, an increase of 16 per cent compared with July in 2005.

From January to July in 2006 the exported value of fish reached NOK 18.2 billion. This is an increase of almost NOK 2.7 billion, or 17.5 per cent compared with the same period in 2005.

The export value of refined mineral products from January to July, increased by NOK 9.0 billion compared with 2005. The export value of propane and butanes increased by NOK 2.8 billion, or an increase of 44.6 per cent compared with the period from January to July last year.

Imports of goods, excluding ships and oil platforms, came to NOK 29.6 billion in July 2006. This equals a rise of NOK 1.1 billion and 3.9 per cent from July 2005.

The import value of manufactured goods increased by NOK 4.9 billion, or 14.4 per cent compared to the first seven months of last year. Main contributors to the increase in import was manufactures of metal and non-ferrous metals.

Machinery and transport equipment increased by NOK 11.7 billion in the period from January to July 2006, or 15.3 per cent in the corresponding period last year. Machinery specialized for particular industries and electrical machinery were the main contributors to this rise, with respectively NOK 2.4 and NOK 1.9 billion. Also, the value of imported road vehicles increased by NOK 1.2 billion compared with January to July 2005.

Imported value of clothes and footwear from January to July increased by NOK 647.9 billion, compared with 2005.
