Increase in external trade

Exports of goods came to NOK 52 billion in May 2005, an increase of 22.5 per cent compared with May last year. Imports of goods came to NOK 29 billion, an increase of 17.7 per cent. The Norwegian trade surplus was NOK 23 billion.

In May, the total export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates came to NOK 32.4 billion, an increase of NOK 6.3 billion compared with May last year. The export value of crude oil came to NOK 23.5 billion, an increase of 17.6 per cent. The crude oil price averaged NOK 306 per barrel, compared with NOK 258 per barrel in May last year.

Seasonally adjusted figures: Increase in exports and imports

Adjusted for seasonality, the export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates, for the period March to May, increased by 17.8 per cent compared with the December 2004 to February 2005 period. Similar figures for traditional exports and imports show an increase of 2.7 and 1.5 per cent respectively.

Increase in exports of refined mineral products, non-ferrous metals, propane and butanes

The export value of traditional goods was NOK 19.6 billion in May, compared with NOK 16.4 billion in May last year. This is an increase of NOK 3.2 billion, or 20 per cent. This development was mainly due to an increase in the export value of refines mineral products and liquefied propane and butanes, which increased by NOK 694 million and 509 million respectively, and non-ferrous metals which increased by NOK 337 million. The export value of fish increased by NOK 294 million.

Increase in imports of cars, data processing equipment and non-metallic mineral manufactures

In May, imports of traditional goods amounted to NOK 29 billion, compared with NOK 25 billion in May 2004, an increase of NOK 4 billion. This development was mainly due to an increase in the import value of cars of NOK 458 million. The import value of non-metallic mineral manufactures and automatic data processing equipment increased by NOK 234 million and NOK 172 million respectively.
