Exports passed NOK 50 billon

Exports ended at NOK 50.8 billon in October, an increase of NOK 8.0 billon compared with October last year. The import value came to NOK 28.1 billion, an increase of NOK 1.4 billion. This resulted in a trade surplus of NOK 22.6 billion in October.

Crude oil, natural gas and condensates accounted for as much as 60 per cent of the export value. The total value of these goods was NOK 30.4 billion, an increase of NOK 8.1 billion from October 2003. Crude oil alone totalled NOK 24.0 billion. This is an increase of NOK 8.5 billion compared with October last year. The price per barrel of crude oil was NOK 332, compared with NOK 209 in October last year. The amount of crude oil barrels exported fell slightly from 72.3 million compared with 74.0 million. The export value of natural gas increased somewhat compared with October last year and ended at NOK 6.0 billion.

Seasonally adjusted figures: Exports up, imports down

Seasonally adjusted figures for exports of traditional goods show a 6.4 per cent increase from May to July compared with figures from August to October this year. Similar figures for traditional imports for the last three months show a 1.2 per cent decrease compared with the May-July period.

Increased imports of cars and metals

Imports of traditional goods came to NOK 28.1 billion in October, an increase of NOK 1.4 billion compared with October last year. The group iron and steel increased by NOK 290 million, while metals except iron and steel increased by NOK 180 million.

Among machinery, the import value of road vehicles increased by NOK 310 million. In the first ten months of this year 135 000 passenger cars have been imported to Norway, compared with 110 300 in the same period last year. The import value for power generating machinery increased by NOK 360 million, while the import value of telecommunications apparatus increased by NOK 190 million.

Exports - more metals, less machinery

The export value of traditional goods was NOK 20.3 billion in October, NOK 130 million less than in October last year. Imports of iron and steel increased by 390 million, non-ferrous metals by NOK 300 million and manufactures of metals by NOK 150 million.

Machinery for special industries showed a decrease in export value of NOK 0.5 billion. General industrial machinery showed the largest increase in export value, while most of the other groups of machinery showed minor alterations.
