Continued increase in trade

Exports of goods came to NOK 48.7 billion in September 2004, an increase of 28 per cent compared with September last year. Imports of goods came to NOK 28.4 billion, an increase of 14.1 per cent. The Norwegian trade surplus was NOK 20.3 billion in September.

In September, the total export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates came to NOK 27.7 billion, an increase of NOK 8.2 billion compared with September last year. The export value of crude oil came to NOK 22.6 billion, an increase of 58.1 per cent. The crude oil price averaged NOK 294 per barrel, compared with NOK 200 per barrel in September last year.

Seasonally adjusted figures

Adjusted for seasonality, the export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensates increased by 3.7 per cent compared with the April to June period. Similar figures for traditional exports and imports show an increase of 7.7 and 4.3 per cent respectively.

Increase in exports of fish, petroleum products, propane and butanes

The export value of traditional goods was NOK 21 billion in September, compared with NOK 18.5 billion in September last year. This is an increase of NOK 2.5 billion. This development was mainly due to an increase in the export value of fish and petroleum products, which both increased by NOK 455 million, and liquefied propane and butanes and non-ferrous metals, which both increased by NOK 320 million.

Increase in imports of cars, iron and steel

In September, imports of traditional goods amounted to NOK 28.4 billion compared with NOK 24.9 billion in September 2003, an increase of NOK 3.5 billion, or 14.5 per cent. This development was mainly due to an increase in the import value of cars of NOK 575 million. The import value of iron and steel increased by NOK 510 million.
