Exports - more metals and oil products

The export value of traditional goods was NOK 18.1 billion in August, an increase of NOK 3.5 billion from August last year. Non-ferrous metals were the main contributor to the rise, with an increase of NOK 640 million, followed by iron and steel, which increased by NOK 490 million.

The export value of oil products, butanes and propane also increased considerably compared with August last year. Both price and quantities increased for these products.

Increase in imports of iron and steel, cars and machinery

Imports of traditional goods came to NOK 25.7 billion in August, compared with NOK 20.6 billion in August last year, an increase of NOK 5.1 billion. A substantial part of the rise in import value can be attributed to a NOK 650 million increase for iron and steel and a NOK 250 million increase for metal goods.

In the group machinery, the import value of road vehicles increased by NOK 560 million. So far in 2004, 103 500 passenger cars have been imported to Norway, compared with 83 300 in the same period last year. The import value of machinery for special industries, office machines and telecommunication equipment all increased by slightly more than NOK 300 million.
