Decline in Foreign Trade

Norway exported goods for NOK 43.7 billion in October, whereas imports amounted to NOK 26.2 billion. From October of last year to October this year exports of crude oil decreased by 30 per cent.

This year imports for October came to NOK 26.2 billion whereas last year the amount was 28.1 billion, a decrease of 6.8 per cent. Traditional exports went down to 19.1 billion from 20.1 billion last year.

Oil prices down

The export value of crude oil, natural gas and condensate amounted to 24.6 in October compared with 31.2 billion in October 2000. The price per barrel for the month was NOK 178 against NOK 292 last year. The average daily export volume increased from 2.91 million barrels last year to 3.33 barrels this year.

Trade balance

Due to the price decline the trade balance in October went down by one billion to NOK 19.1 billion. Still the first ten months this year show a higher surplus than for the corresponding period last year, 194 billion [corrected 22.11.01] compared with 176 billion, respectively.

Excluding crude oil and natural gas the trade deficit for the first ten months was 58 billion compared with 55 billion for the same period last year.

Seasonally adjusted figures

These figures decreased by eight per cent for exports in the period August-October compared with figures from the previous three months. For imports the decline is 5.3 per cent for the same periods.
