Export of crude oil for 22.4 Billion

Norway exported crude oil for NOK 24.4 billion and natural gas for 1.9 billion in July. Traditional exports amounted to 14.6 billion, while imports came to 20.9 billion. The trade surplus in July was 18.0 billion, about the double of the surplus in July last year.

The trade surplus in the first seven months this year was NOK 117.2 billion kroner. This is almost four times the surplus last year, when it was 31.7 billion.

Crude Oil Price of 243 kroner

In July we exported crude oil for as much as NOK 22.4 billion. The average crude oil price was NOK 243 per barrel, and the export quantity was 92.0 million barrels. Corresponding figures for July last year were NOK 148 per barrel and a quantity of 82.1 million barrels. In the period January to July this year we have exported crude oil for 136.9 billion. The last year's figure was NOK 59.1 billion. The strong growth in value from 1999 for crude oil is mainly due to increased prices. From January 1999 on, the average price has risen from NOK 80 to 250 per barrel. In January to July last year we exported 546 million barrels, while the figure for this year was 599.

Increased exports of metals and oil products

In July we exported traditional goods for NOK 14.6 billion. This was an increase of 1.8 billion compared with July last year. We exported metals for NOK 3 billion, an increase of 600 million. Last month we exported refined crude oil products for 2 billion. Looking at the main products in this group, the prices were doubled. In addition there were considerable growth in quantities.

Import growth for ores and machinery

Last month we imported traditional goods for NOK 20.9 billion, compared with 18.1 billion in the same month last year. This is a increase of 15.4 per cent. For ores the import value last month was 1 billion, an increase of NOK 280 million. Several groups of machinery showed increased import values. For electric machinery and apparatus imports in July were 1.1 billion. We imported road vehicles for NOK 1.9 billion, an increase of 130 million from July last year.
