Decrease in outward settlement flows

Outward bank settlement flows decreased from the second quarter of 2016 to the third quarter of 2016.

Settlements from foreign countries to Norwegian bank accounts amounted to NOK 563 billion in the third quarter of 2016. This was a decrease of 0.2 per cent, equivalent to NOK 1 billion from the second quarter of 2016. 

Outgoing settlements showed a decrease of 4.8 per cent, or NOK 28 billion, from the second quarter of 2016. The total settlements sent from Norwegian non-financial enterprises and private persons to foreign countries reached NOK 553 billion. 

Compared with the third quarter of 2015, incoming settlements increased by NOK 53 billion. This was an increase of 10.4 per cent. In the same period, outgoing settlements decreased 2.1 per cent, going down by NOK 12 billion.

Decreased settlements from EU countries except Nordic countries

The decrease in the outward settlements was mainly due to a decrease in transfers from EU countries except Nordic countries, which decreased by NOK 14 billion, or 4.7 per cent, from the second quarter of 2016. The outward settlements from Nordic countries ended at NOK 194 billion in the third quarter of 2016; a decrease of 6.2 per cent from the previous quarter. 

Bank transfers to Norway from Nordic countries increased by NOK 4 billion from the second quarter of 2016; up by 1.9 per cent.

Increased transfers to the mining and quarrying industry

Enterprises within the mining and quarrying industry received NOK 87 billion from abroad in the third quarter of 2016. This was an increase of NOK 20 billion from the second quarter of 2016, equivalent to an increase of 29.1 per cent. Compared with the third quarter of 2015 there was an increase of 13.7 per cent, or NOK 11 billion. Bank transfers to enterprises within information and communication also increased, and received NOK 14 billion more than in the previous quarter.

Decreased transfers from Electricity, gas and steam

Norwegian enterprises sent NOK 540 billion abroad in the third quarter of 2016, which were NOK 28 billion less than in the second quarter of 2016. In particular enterprises within Electricity, gas and steam, and industry had a decrease in their settlements to foreign countries, by NOK 18 billion and NOK 14 billion, respectively.
