Upturn for transport

The positive trend for the transport industry continued in the third quarter of 2010, as turnover increased by 6.3 per cent from the corresponding quarter in 2009.

Particularly strong figures were reported by industries offering auxiliary transportation services. Turnover for the division Warehousing and support activities for transportation grew in total by 9.6 per cent from the third quarter of 2009 to the third quarter of 2010. Water transport also experienced an upturn and posted an increase in turnover of 10.3 per cent in the same period.

Reduced turnover for motion picture projection

Establishments providing motion picture, video and television programme activities reported a drop in turnover of 6.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2010, compared to the same period last year. Figures were especially disappointing for motion picture projection. Various publishing activities, including publishing of books and newspapers, also experienced a decrease in turnover in the third quarter.

Continued growth for tourism

Turnover in the tourism industry grew for the second consecutive quarter. Establishments providing accommodation reported an increase in turnover of 2.8 per cent from the third quarter of 2009 to the third quarter of 2010, whereas those offering food and beverage service activities experienced a corresponding growth of 4.2 per cent.

Preliminary figures

Figures for the 3r d quarter are based on data for the months of July and August. Data for September are predicted using historical growth. Consequently, these figures are preliminary and subject to change.
