Rise in freight and passenger transport

The growth in transport services is still strong according to new figures. Total turnover within transport, storage and communications increased by 7.3 per cent from the first quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of this year.

Turnover within railway transports increased by 3.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2008. Other land transports, including freight transport and transports with passenger by bus or taxi, were up by 10.1 per cent.

Rise in air transports

In air transports turnover increased by 14 per cent in the first quart of 2008 compared with the same quarter in 2007. For businesses within water transports, turnover rose by 4.3 per cent. Ocean transports and tug- and supply vessels are dominant sub-industries within water transports.

More travelling

Travel agencies experienced a 5.3 per cent increase in turnover in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the first quarter of 2007. Hotels went up by 7.8 per cent.

Good results in telecommunication

Telecommunication activities rose by 6.7 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2007. Telecommunications also include businesses which transmit TV-signals. Post- and courier activities experienced a modest 0.8 per cent increase in the same quarter.

Reorganisation of public transports

Due to reorganisation of public transports in Oslo and Akershus, the figures in NACE 63.2 and 60.2 are not comparable with previous years.

Preliminary figures

Figures for the first quarter are based on data for January and February. Figures for March and April are predicted using historical growth. Because of this, figures might be revised.
