Good quarter for land transport

Businesses within land and pipeline transport increased their turnover by 8 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2005. Freight transport by road, which is the largest industry subclass, had an increase in turnover by 10.9 per cent.

Tramway and suburban transport increased by 14.1 per cent and transport via railways by 4.7 per cent in the same period. Businesses within pipeline transport saw turnover increase by 16.9 per cent.

Good results for hotels and restaurants

Hotels had an increase in turnover by 6.8 per cent from the third quarter of 2005. Hotels with restaurant facilities increased their turnover by 7 per cent, while hotels without restaurant facilities increased their turnover by 2.9 per cent. The accommodation statistics shows a 3.6 per cent increase in the number of accommodations in the same period. Restaurants and cafes experienced a 7.2 per cent increase, and canteens and catering businesses a 15.4 per cent increase in turnover.

Breeze at sea

Businesses within water transports increased their turnover by 6 per cent in the third quarter of 2006. Ocean transport, which accounts for most of the turnover, fell by 1.8 per cent. A strong growth for tug and supply vessels contributed to a positive result for the industry in total.

Radio and television up

The turnover for radio and television businesses increased by 19.7 per cent compared with the third quarter of 2005. Post andtelecommunication activities fell by 0.4 per cent, while telecommunications rose by 0.4 per cent.
