Good quarter for land transport

All types of land transport experienced an increase in turnover in the first quarter of 2006 compared to same quarter 2005.

Businesses within freight transport had a 18,6 per cent increase in turnover compared with the first quarter of 2005. The turnover of railway transport increased by 12,3 per cent, while other scheduled passenger land transport increased turnover by 18,8 per cent in the same period. Transport via pipelines experienced a 2,7 per cent growth in turnover

Success for water transport

The turnover for businesses within water transport increased by 6 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2005. Ocean transport, which is the largest enterprise within this industry, increased by 3,4 per cent. The turnover within air transport increased by 14,2 per cent in the same period.

Positive for canteen- and catering businesses

Businesses within canteen- and catering had a 16,4 per cent increase in turnover compared with the first quarter of 2005. Restaurants and Cafés experienced a more moderate growth. Businesses within fast food had a 1 percent increase in the same period. The turnover within hotels increased by 10 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2005. Hotels with restaurants had a higher growth than hotels with no restaurants.

Growth in telecommunications

The turnover in telecommunications increased by 8,5 per cent in the first quarter of 2006 compared with the first quarter of 2005. National post activities had a 7,5 per cent increase in turnover. Businesses involved in the radio and television industry experienced a 1 per cent decrease in turnover in the same period
