Small increase for restaurants

The index of hotels and restaurants increased by 0.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2003 compared with the third quarter of 2002. The turnover of restaurants increased by 3.3 per cent, while the turnover for hotels decreased by 3 per cent in the same period.

Turnover in transport, storage and communication increased

The index of land and pipeline transport increased by 5.8 per cent from the third quarter of 2002 to the third quarter of 2003. The turnover for transport via railways decreased by 1.9 per cent, while the turnover for other land transport increased by 3 per cent. Transport via pipelines had a 15.3 per cent increase in turnover in the same period.

The water transport industry experienced an increase in turnover of 16.7 per cent in the third quarter of 2003 compared with the third quarter of 2002. The turnover of ocean transport increased by 20.5 per cent.

Air transport had a 3.4 per cent decrease in turnover in the third quarter of 2003 compared with the year before. Scheduled air transport experienced a 1.9 per cent decrease in turnover, while non-scheduled air transport had an 11.5 per cent decrease.

Establishments in industries of supporting and auxiliary transport activities and activities of travel agencies experienced an increase of 1.7 per cent in the same period. Cargo handling and storage had a 5.6 per cent increase in turnover, while the turnover for other supporting transport activities decreased by 1.4 per cent. The turnover of travel agencies, tour operators and tourist assistance activities decreased by 0.4 per cent. For activities of other transport agencies the turnover increased by 6.4 per cent.

The turnover of establishments in post and telecommunications increased by 2.2 per cent.
