Increase in transport costs

The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.3 per cent from December 2007 to January 2008. Over the last 12 months, total costs have increased by 6.0 per cent.

The fuel index decreased by 1.7 per cent in January. From January 2007 to January 2008, this sub-index increased by 16.0 per cent.

The insurance cost index increased by 2.1 per cent the last month. During the last 12 months, this index has increased by 4.2 per cent.

In January, the index for capital costs increased by 1.9 per cent, mainly due to an increase in real interests rates. Over the last 12 months, this index, which consists of depreciation and amortization, interest costs and annual fees, has increased by 2.9 per cent.

The sub-index for repair and service costs increased by 1.2 per cent in January. In the last 12 months, this index has increased by 6.1 per cent.

The other sub-indices show no or few changes over the last month.
